COMPARATIVE MORPHOMETRIC ASSESSMENT AMONG PLUMAGE VARIETIES OF NOILER CHICKEN (GALLUS GALLUS DOMESTICUS)
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study was aimed at comparing the growth patterns of different plumage of Noiler chicken of brown, barred, and black varieties. Two hundred day old chicks of Noiler Chicken were obtained from a reputable hatchery and placed in wooden cages in triplicates according to their plumage. The morphometric measurements, including height, back length, wing length, breast width, breast length, beak length, shank circumference, and body weight, were recorded at the end of the fourth week. The results of the study highlighted significant variations in height, back length, wing length, breast width, breast length, beak length, shank circumference, and body weight among the brown, barred, and black plumage varieties. Brown plumage exhibited superior height (24.1133±0.30353), back length (19.5633±0.46194), and breast width (9.87000±0.20601), while barred plumage showed an advantage in wing length (12.6067±0.21458). Black plumage stood out significantly with larger body weight (436.267±9.6058), breast length (9.01000±0.20462), beak length (1.28667±0.037976), and shank circumference (3.31333±0.051580). These findings not only contribute to our understanding of phenotypic diversity within Noiler chickens but also have practical implications for breeders and poultry farmers. By identifying specific plumage varieties with superior growth characteristics and desirable traits, breeders can strategically enhance breeding programs to optimize productivity and performance.
