INVITRO AND INSILICO ANTIMALARIAL PROPERTIES OF LEAVE EXTRACT FROM HYPTIS SUAVIOLENS (CHAN PLANT)
Abstract
ABSTRACT
Malaria remains a disease with devastating global impact, killing more than eight thousand people every year, and the major threat to malaria control is the spread of drug resistant parasites. Efforts are now being directed towards the discovery and development of new chemically diverse antimalarial agents. The present study reports was analysed to test the presence of compounds using In silico analysis, and anti-plasmodial activity of chloroform and diethylether extract of Hyptis Suaviolens using standard procedures. The extract was analyzed at different concentrations of 10 mg/mL, 5 mg/mL, 2.5 mg/mL and 1.25 mg/mL for anti-plasmodial activity against Plasmodium falciparum. The result of anti-plasmodial activity revealed that both chloroform and diethyl ether extracts of H.suaviolens were effective against the malaria parasite. Among the extract, chloroform has the highest percentage elimination as compared to diethylether . The percentage elimination was high at 10mg/mL and was found to be low at 1.25mg/mL.In silico docking further revealed that constituent compounds such as Solagenin and Naringin strongly interact with the catalytic residues of PfDHFR(Asp54, Ser108), mirroring known antifolate mechanisms. The ADMET and pharmacokinetic analyses identified Solagenin as the most promising PfDHFR inhibitor, combining potent binding affinity with optimal drug-likeness, high absorption, and metabolic stability.
