COMPARATIVE, QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS OF THE PHOTOCHEMICAL COMPOUNDS PRESENT IN NON ALCOHOLIC HERBAL MIXTURES (BABA 90 AND COCOA SAMBA)
Abstract
The paper has examined the phytochemical composition of two non-alcoholic herbal blends, Baba 90, and Coco Samba to determine their potential health advantages, functions and adverse effects. There were significant bioactive compounds, such as alkaloids, flavonoids, phenols, tannins, saponins, oxalates, phytates, and cyanogenic glycosides in their corresponding proportions shown by the screening of the phytochemicals. The total phytochemical content in Baba 90 (13.742mg/100g) was higher than Coco Samba (12.947mg/100g) implying more pharmacological strength. These phytochemicals are very important in antioxidant functions as well as antimicrobial functions and immune boosting as well as metabolically. The availability of the anti-nutritional substances, however, like oxalates, phytates, and cyanogenic glycosides, suggests that some moderation should be involved in eliminating the risk of toxicity and malabsorption of Vitamins and other nutrients. The results confirm that Baba 90 and Coco Samba are high in valuable compounds that warrants their use in the Traditional medicine practises of disease prevention and promoting health. However, additional research on efficiency, dosage tolerance and efficacy of their use in clinics is advisable in order to provide their optimum and safe application as alternative herbal remedies. Keywords: phytochemicals, Baba 90, Coco Samba, alkaloids, flavonoid, Herbal mixtures, Antioxidant activity, Toxicity.
