MEASUREMENTS AND ANALYSIS OF RADIO FREQUENCY RADIATION FROM SOME MOBILE PHONE MASTS IN CHIROMAWA TOWN.
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This research focuses on the measurement and analysis of radio frequency (RF) radiation emitted from selected mobile phone masts located in Chiromawa Town. Using standard RF meters(EMF Meter Model – 390) and data analysis techniques, radiation intensities were measured at varying distances from multiple base stations belonging to different network providers (MTN, AIRTEL, and GLO). The MTN base station has the values at 50, 100, 150 and 200m as; 19.925 mW/m2, 26.995 mW/m2, 1.812 mW/m2, and 10.898 mW/m2 and the coefficients of correlation as; 0.759, 0.470, 0.250 and 0.196 respectively, The AIRTEL base station has the values at 50, 100, 150 and 200m as; 14.70 mW/m2, 29.105 mW/m2, 30.769 mW/m2 and 11.918 mW/m2 and the coefficient of correlation as; 0.845, 0.880, 0.970 and 0.300 respectively and The GLO base station has the values at 50, 100, 150 and 200m as; 12.940 mW/m2, 4.531 mW/m2, 7.376 mW/m2 and 6.181 mW/m2 and the coefficient of correlation as; 0.600, 0.200, 0.450and 0.330 respectively. The data were analyzed statistically to determine the relationship between distance and radiation intensity. The results revealed that radiation levels generally decrease with increasing distance from the base stations, indicating a predictable and safe exposure pattern consistent with international safety standards. The findings also show that all recorded radiation values are within the permissible limits set by the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) which is 9mW/m2 for the public and 22.5mW/m2 for those professionals involved in telecommunication industry, confirming that the base stations in Chiromawa Town pose no significant health hazard to the public.
