Abstract

ABSTRACT This research focuses on the design and installation of a video surveillance control system in the Higher National Diploma (HND) Computer Laboratory at Isa Mustapha Agwai I Polytechnic, Lafia. The study aims to enhance security, optimize resource management, and ensure efficient monitoring of student activities within the laboratory. Video surveillance systems have been widely recognized for their effectiveness in reducing crime and improving safety, but their application in educational settings presents unique challenges, particularly concerning ethical considerations and privacy concerns. This research reviews the existing literature on video surveillance in educational institutions, highlighting gaps related to ethical frameworks, technological advancements, and policy development. The study investigates how the implementation of a surveillance system can address security threats, improve the managementof technological resources, and foster a safer learning environment. By drawing on previous research, including studies on crime prevention and resource optimization, this work contextualizes the role of video surveillance within an academic setting. Ethical considerations, such as privacy protection and informed consent, are also examined to ensure that the surveillance system adheres to institutional policies and legal standards. The findings will contribute to developing a comprehensive framework for video surveillance control in educational laboratories, offering practical solutions for security enhancement, resource allocation, and ethical compliance.
