Abstract

The Itu river system is anthropogenically perturbed by waste pollution, erosion, crude oil leakage etc. EDI of on T. fuscatus from the area revealed that values of Cu, Zn, Ni, Co and Mn analyzed for EDI were all below the maximum points of USEPA (2011). And the concentration values in the flesh were below the maximum permissible limits set by WHO/FAO (2013). Cu (3.45km/kg/per day) and Zn(3.16km/kg/per day) had high EDI values as this was also reflected in their concentration values in the flesh (Cu = 23.030.03mg/kg); Zn = 21.090.03ng/kg). This was traceable to the roles these nutrients play in the metabolism of the specimen, hence higher absorption. Cobalt had the least values both in EDI and the concentration local of the flesh. From this work, the CDI of T. fuscatus from Itu river is within approved range; T. fuscatus from the area is suitable for consumption.
