PHYSIOCOCHEMICAL ANALYSIS OF OIL EXTRACTED FROM EUCALYPTUS GLOBULUS LABILL SEED
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This research focused on the physicochemical analysis of oil extracted from Eucalyptus globulus labill seeds. The oil extraction was done using the Soxhlet extraction method and the physicochemical parameters of the obtained seed oil were determined according to standard analytical methods to assess the quality, stability, and potential applications of the extracted oil. These results reveal that Eucalyptus globulus seeds are rich source of fixed oil with 40.0 ± 1.00% oil yield. The oil also exhibited a low acid value of 3.37± 0.28 mg KOH/g, peroxide value of 2.25 ± 0.25 meq/kg, saponification value of 135.60 ± 3.53 mg KOH/g, iodine value of 6.27 ± 0.07 g I/100 g. The oil remained liquid at low temperatures, while the density was 0.841 g/cm³, which is typical of vegetable oils. Overall, this work highlights the importance of exploring Eucalyptus globulus labill seeds as a non-conventional, high-yield source of stable vegetable oil for food, pharmaceutical, and oleochemical industries, especially given the scarcity of seed-specific studies compared to leaves. It also contributes to the growing interest in natural plant-based oils and their usefulness as bioactive compounds
