Abstract

ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to investigate the Kwara State Library Board's obstacles to the availability and use of adapted technologies for the assistance of people with disabilities. The study used a qualitative approach to its investigation. Data was gathered using questionnaire instructions and purposefully chosen Kwara State Library Board libraries. 36 people in all were chosen, and the questionnaire was directed at 50 employees using the snowball method, as well as the heads of the library's special education unit. To analyse the data, thematic content analysis was employed. The study showed that the library had a separate section for meeting the requirements of people with disabilities, that there were staff members who were committed to meeting their needs, and that there were adapted technology of some kind that helped people with disabilities access certain services. Nevertheless, the adaptive technology required to access the built environment and library services were dreadfully insufficient to allow individuals with disabilities to live independently in the library setting.
