Abstract

This study examines the history, spread, and impact of Islam in Gudi Emirates of Fika Local Government Area. The research investigates how Islam was introduced into the area, the methods through which it expanded, and the role played by Islamic scholars, traditional rulers, traders, and missionaries in promoting Islamic teachings among the people of Gudi Emirates. The study also explores the social, political, educational, and cultural influence of Islam on the lives of the inhabitants. Both primary and secondary sources of data were used in carrying out the research. Oral interviews were conducted with community elders, Islamic scholars, and local residents, while books, journals, archival materials, and other documented sources provided additional information. The findings reveal that Islam spread gradually through trade, migration, intermarriage, and preaching activities, eventually becoming a dominant religion in the area. The study further shows that Islam contributed significantly to moral upbringing, conflict resolution, educational development, and community unity within Gudi Emirates. However, the research identifies certain challenges facing Islamic practice in the area, including inadequate Islamic educational facilities, poverty, and the influence of modern social changes. The study concludes that Islam has played a vital role in shaping the historical and socio-cultural development of Gudi Emirates and recommends greater support for Islamic education, preservation of Islamic heritage, and peaceful coexistence among different religious groups. Keywords: Islam, Gudi Emirates, Fika Local Government, Yobe State, Islamic history, religion, socio-cultural development.
