Abstract

This comprehensive study leverages the capabilities of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to investigate, analyze, and visualize the Urban Heat Island (UHI) phenomenon in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti state, Nigeria. By integrating multi-source data, including: - High-resolution satellite imagery - Temperature data from weather stations and remote sensing - Land use/land cover classification - Urban morphology metrics I conducted a spatial analysis to: - Map and quantify the UHI effect - Identify areas of elevated temperatures and heat intensity - Examine the relationships between urbanization, land use patterns, and temperature anomalies My findings will provide valuable insights into the spatial dynamics of UHI, highlighting areas of concern and informing data-driven strategies for: - Urban planning and design - Heat mitigation and adaptation measures - Public health and well-being initiatives This research demonstrates the potential of GIS-based approaches for monitoring and analyzing UHI within Ado-Ekiti city, supporting the development of more resilient and sustainable urban environments.
