THEEFFECTS OF MODERN TECHNOLOGY TOOLS IN TEACHING ENGLISH LANGUAGE IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS
Abstract
This study examined the effects of modern technology tools on teaching English language in secondary schools, focusing on their influence on instructional methods, student engagement, and language acquisition. The study aimed to assess the effectiveness of digital learning platforms, interactive applications, multimedia resources, and artificial intelligence (AI) in enhancing students' proficiency in English. It also explored the challenges faced by both teachers and students in integrating modern technology into language instruction, including issues related to digital literacy, accessibility, and adaptability.
The literature review provided an in-depth analysis of the role of technology in education, the challenges in Implementing Modern technology in English language teaching and the potential of AI in language learning. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. The population comprised secondary school students in selected schools, while a sample of 60 students was selected using a combination of simple random and stratified sampling techniques. Data were collected through a validated questionnaire titled "Modern Technology in Language Instruction Questionnaire" (MTLIQ), and the reliability of the instrument was established through a test-retest method. Data analysis was conducted using frequency counts and percentages.
Findings revealed that modern technology tools significantly enhanced students' engagement, comprehension, and overall performance in English language learning. However, challenges such as inadequate teacher training, lack of technological infrastructure, and resistance to digital transformation hindered optimal integration. The study also found that AI-driven tools, interactive applications, and multimedia resources improved students' writing, speaking, and listening skills by providing personalized and immersive learning experiences. The study concluded that modern technology, when effectively integrated into English language instruction, can transform language learning outcomes. It recommended increased investment in teacher training, improved access to digital resources, and the adoption of AI-based tools to create an inclusive and effective language learning environment.
