AN ASSESSMENT OF THE IMPACT OF GROUP DECISION MAKING ON ORGANIZATIONAL PERFORMANCES ( A CASE STUDY OF YOBE FLOUR MILL POTISKUM)
Abstract
This research project titled “An Assessment of the Impact of Group Decision Making on Organizational Performance (A Case Study of Yobe Flour Mill, Potiskum)” examines the extent to which collective decision-making processes influence the overall effectiveness and productivity of an organization. The study recognizes that in modern management, decisions are rarely made in isolation; rather, they involve the input of various members of the organization who contribute diverse experiences, skills, and perspectives.
The main objectives of the study were to assess the relationship between group decision making and organizational performance, determine how participatory decision making affects employee commitment and efficiency, and identify the challenges associated with group decision processes in Yobe Flour Mill, Potiskum. The research adopted a descriptive survey design. Data were collected through questionnaires and interviews administered to selected management and staff members of Yobe Flour Mill. The data collected were analyzed using simple percentages and descriptive statistical tools.
The findings revealed that group decision making has a significant positive impact on organizational performance, as it enhances innovation, employee morale, communication, and problem-solving efficiency. However, the study also identified challenges such as time consumption, conflict of interest, and dominance by certain group members, which sometimes hinder effective decision outcomes.
The study concludes that effective group decision making contributes greatly to improved organizational productivity and goal achievement. It therefore recommends that management should continue to encourage teamwork, ensure equal participation among members, and adopt structured decision-making techniques that promote inclusiveness and objectivity in the process.
