OPERATION STATE OF LECTURE THEATRE AND MAINTENANCE EFFICIENCY IN FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC IDAH
Abstract
This study investigates the current physical condition and maintenance efficiency of lecture theatres at the Federal Polytechnic, Idah. The research aimed at assessing the operational state of major building components such as foundations, walls, ceilings, roofs, electrical appliances, floors, doors, and windows within the theatres, as well as evaluating the Polytechnic’s overall maintenance efficiency. Data were collected using structured questionnaires administered to lecturers, students, and maintenance staff, complemented by direct observation and physical inspection of the facilities. Descriptive statistical methods, including frequency distribution and mean scores, were employed in the analysis. The findings revealed that the lecture theatres are in a fair but steadily declining state. The study concludes that preventive maintenance schedules and upgrading of outdated facilities would significantly enhance operational efficiency. Recommendations include routine condition assessments and the adoption of modern maintenance management techniques. This research contributes to the understanding of facility performance evaluation in academic environments and provides practical solutions for improving learning spaces.
