MANAGING RURAL DEVELOPMENT THROUGH INDUSTRIALIZATION (A CASE STUDY OF IDAH LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF KOGI STATE)
Abstract
This research project assessed the Managing Rural Development through Industrialization, with a particular reference in to Idah Local Government Area, Kogi State. Data for the study were collected from both secondary and primary sources. Secondary data for the study were obtained from journals, textbooks, and online sources. Primary data were mainly derived from structured questionnaires administered to 200 residents of the local government selected via judgmental sampling technique. Their responses were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The study showed that the low level of industrialization in Idah Local Government Area is attributable to inadequate provisioning of infrastructural facilities by the local government authorities. Also, the study found out that the local government’s administration does not give priority attention to the industrialization of the local government, thereby denying it the inherent benefits of industrialization such as job creation, poverty reduction, increased government revenues and reduced ruralurban migration. To this end, the study suggested measures that will enhance the level of rural industrialization in the local government.
