YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT AND GOVERNANCE IN NIGERIA: CHALLENGES FROM EKITI STATE
Abstract
This study examines the challenges faced by young people in Ekiti State, Nigeria in finding employment and the impact of governance structures and policies on youth unemployment. The study reveals that young people in Ekiti State face significant challenges in finding employment due to a lack of job opportunities, corruption, and inadequate education and skills training. The study also finds that ineffective governance structures and policies exacerbate the problem of youth unemployment. The study recommends the establishment of a youth employment agency, allocation of a dedicated budget for youth empowerment programs, establishment of a mentorship program, and a monitoring and evaluation framework to track progress. The study contributes to the ongoing conversation on youth unemployment in Nigeria and provides valuable insights for policymakers and stakeholders working to address this critical issue.
