EXAMS BIOMETRIC ATTENDANCE SYSTEM (A CASE STUDY OF COMPUTER SCIENCE DEPARTMENT)
Abstract
The traditional method of taking attendance during examinations in many tertiary institutions is often characterized by impersonation, inaccurate records, time consumption, and poor monitoring. These challenges affect the credibility and effectiveness of the examination process, especially in departments with large student populations. This project, titled “Exams Biometric Attendance System: A Case Study of the Computer Science Department,” is designed to develop a secure and efficient attendance management system using biometric technology.
The system utilizes fingerprint recognition technology to verify and record students’ attendance during examinations. Each student’s biometric data is captured and stored in a database during registration, while attendance is automatically authenticated during examinations through fingerprint scanning. This eliminates the possibility of impersonation and ensures accurate attendance records.
The proposed system was developed using modern programming and database technologies to provide fast processing, reliable storage, and easy retrieval of attendance information. The system also generates reports for examination officers and departmental administrators, thereby improving monitoring and decision-making.
The implementation of the biometric attendance system enhances security, reduces examination malpractice related to identity fraud, saves time during attendance taking, and improves the overall efficiency of examination management in the Computer Science Department. The study concludes that biometric technology is a reliable solution for modern attendance systems in educational institutions and recommends its adoption across other departments and institutions for improved examination administration.
