Abstract

This study investigates how organizational communication influences job satisfaction among employees of financial institutions in Ijebu North Local Government Area (LGA), Nigeria. Grounded in Social Exchange Theory, Herzberg’s Two-Factor Theory, and The Communication Accommodation Theory the research explores how communication acts as a determinant of employee morale and operational success, particularly in the context of hierarchical and culturally diverse work environments. The primary objectives include identifying the types of communication used, assessing employee satisfaction levels, examining the link between communication effectiveness and satisfaction, evaluating perceived barriers, and recommending strategies to improve communication and job morale. The methodology focuses on a case study of two strategically selected banks Polaris Bank Plc (commercial) and Molusi Microfinance Bank Ltd, employing structured questionnaires to collect primary data from employees during office hours. Key findings reveal that internal communication, particularly when clear, timely, and participatory, strongly correlates with job satisfaction. Ineffective communication contributes to role ambiguity, stress, and low morale. Barriers identified include hierarchical rigidity, cultural differences, poor feedback mechanisms, and technological limitations. The study concludes that effective organizational communication fosters clarity, employee engagement, and alignment with institutional goals. Recommendations emphasize improving feedback systems, cross-cultural communication training, digital communication tools, and leadership transparency.
