DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF AN IOT IN TRRAFFIC MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
Abstract
ABSTRACT
The rapid growth of population in Nigeria has led to increased traffic congestion, accidents, and violations, emphasizing the need for intelligent traffic management systems. This project proposes the design and implementation of an Internet of Things (IoT)-based traffic management system that leverages real-time data analytics and automation to optimize traffic flow and capture traffic violators. The system integrates IP cameras for real-time violation detection, smart traffic lights for optimized traffic control, and a computer-based storage system for data analysis and retrieval. The ESP8266 microcontroller enables wireless communication and automation of the system, allowing for real-time monitoring and control.
The results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed system in managing traffic, reducing congestion, and improving road safety. The system's ability to capture traffic violators and provide real-time traffic by suggesting the next best route around the propose system location. This project contributes to the development of intelligent transportation systems, providing a scalable and adaptable solution for traffic management in Nigeria. The proposed system has the potential to reduce traffic congestion, improve air quality, and enhance the overall road experience.
