EFFECT OF INTEGRATING DIGITAL TOOLS ON ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF CHEMISTRY STUDENTS’ IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN OLAMABORO LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA KOGI STATE, NIGERIA
Abstract
ABSTRACT
The main purpose of the study is to assess the effect of integrating digital tools (collaboration
platform) into chemistry teaching and learning in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The study adopted two research questions, objectives and hypotheses for the study. Relevant
literatures were reviewed in line with the study, also relevant empirical studies were reviewed in
line with the research questions. Quasi experimental research design was adopted as the research
design for the study. The study encompass all Chemistry students across various academic levels,
ranging from SS 1 to SS 3 with total of 23, 537 students. Purposive sampling techniques was used
to select a total sample size comprise 170 students, with 105 females and 65 males included.
Chemistry performance test was used as the instrument of data collection. The data was analyzed
using mean scores of students while hypotheses was tested using Analysis of Covariance
(ANCOVA). The findings shows that there is a significant difference in the performance of students
taught chemistry with collaboration platform and those taught with traditional method in Dekina
Local Government Area of Kogi State and there is a significant difference in the performance of
male and female taught chemistry with collaboration platform and those taught with traditional
method in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State. In conclusion collaboration platform
shows promise in enhancing academic performance in chemistry compared to lecture teaching
methods. Gender differences should be considered in the implementation of instructional
strategies, such as collaboration platform, to ensure equitable learning outcomes for male and
female students platform, with potential variations in learning outcomes between male and female
students. The study recommended that educators should consider incorporating collaboration
platform into their teaching practices, particularly in chemistry education, to promote deeper
understanding and improved academic performance among students.
