Abstract

This study was conducted to analyze the impact of Owerri Industrial and Domestic effluents on the quality of Nworie River, Imo State, Nigeria. The method of data collection was a deliberate sampling technique or purposive sampling design. Investigations on the physicochemical properties and microbial load of Nworie River in Owerri Imo state, Nigeria was carried out between April and November 2019. Water samples from 3 locations namely (Upstream Akwakuma), (Discharge point Federal Medical Center) and (Downstream Holy Ghost College) were collected and taken to the laboratory for analysis. Tests such as; Temperature, Conductivity, pH, TDS, and DO were determined in-situ. Results show that, at either the upstream, midstream or downstream, at a point the values were above the WHO standard and within range for some parameters. Analysis on microbial quality however revealed heavy presence of microbial contamination in the midstream (Discharge point).
