Abstract

ABSTRACT This study investigates the phytochemical composition of Cleome viscosa, a medicinal plant widely recognized for its therapeutic applications in traditional medicine. Cleome viscosa is reputed for its antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory properties, attributed to its rich reservoir of bioactive compounds. The research aims to analyze the phytochemical constituents of this plant to validate its medicinal potential and contribute to the growing body of knowledge on plant-based remedies. Fresh and dried plant samples of Cleome viscosa were subjected to qualitative and quantitative phytochemical screening using standard laboratory techniques. The results revealed the presence of key bioactive compounds, including alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, terpenoids, and phenolic compounds, with varying concentrations in different parts of the plant. The findings underscore the significant medicinal potential of Cleome viscosa, particularly its utility in combating microbial infections and oxidative stress-related diseases. This study concludes that Cleome viscosa is a promising candidate for the development of natural therapeutic agents. It recommends further in-depth studies on its pharmacological properties and possible toxicological effects to support its incorporation into modern medicine. The outcomes provide a scientific basis for the plant's traditional use and a foundation for its potential industrial applications.
