Abstract

ABSTRACT In recent times, a lot of Nigerian’s depends on ground water for drinking, domestic, industrial and even Agricultural uses. With the demands of housing facilities in any developing environment, has lead to alot of land wrongly land management practices and locating wells in an improper designed manner. This research uses both Bacteriological and physio-chemical tests approach in analyzing the impact of septic tank located on the borehole water quality. In the cause of study, it was observed that in three boreholes, where samples where collected in the Off-Campus lodges, where samples is 5m, 10m, 15m. The safe distance as closest WHO, UNICEF standards, according to availability of the bacteriological test showed that standard set by the WHO and NSDWO while the other results fell within and above the standards. The presence of coliform bacteria, specifically E.Coli in drinking water suggests the water may contain pathogens that can cause diarrhoea, vomiting, cramps, nausea, headaches, fever, fatigue and even death. We recommend the reduction of ground water exploitation and by locating wells in properly designed manner.
