Abstract

This study investigated the abundance and distribution of mosquitoes in the New Male Students Hostel at Yobe State University, Damaturu. Mosquitoes were collected using sweep nets and mosquito nets. A total of 1596 mosquitoes were collected, comprising 1592 Culex spp. (99.6%), 6 Anopheles spp. (0.4%), and 0% Aedes spp. Among the Culex spp., 920 (57.9%) were male and 672 (42.1%) were female. The study found strong correlations between mosquito abundance and environmental factors, emphasizing the need for integrated vector management strategies to reduce mosquito populations and disease transmission.
