Abstract

ABSTRACT This project report presents the design, installation and evaluation of a 7.5kva solar panel system for the department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. The primary objective was to address the persistent on a challenge of unstable grid electricity supply and the high operational costs associated with diesel generators commonly used as backup power. The system was carefully designed to meet the department’s essential energy demands while promoting clean and sustainable energy practices. The solar installation consists of photovoltaic panels with a combined capacity to generate adequate D.C. power, a charge controller to regulate battery charging, deep-cycle batteries for energy storage, and a pure sine wave inverter to invert DC to AC for powering laboratory equipment and offices loads. Detailed load analysis and energy audit were carried out to guide the sizing and selection of all components to ensure reliable performance.
