THE INFLUENCE OF PARENTAL ATTACHMENT STYLE ON ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIPS
Abstract
Results revealed that secure parental attachment significantly predicted relationship satisfaction (β = .53, t = 10.82, p < .01), accounting for 28% of the variance. Anxious parental attachment significantly influenced emotional dependency in romantic relationships (β = .58, t = 12.41, p < .01), explaining 34% of the variance. Avoidant parental attachment had a significant negative effect on trust (β = -.54, t = -11.63, p < .01), accounting for 29% of the variance. No significant gender differences were found in romantic relationship patterns based on parental attachment styles. The majority of respondents were aged 17–21 years (70.3%) and female (82.0%), with most raised by both parents (96.7%) and currently in romantic relationships (93.7%).
