STUDY THE MICROSCOPY CHARACTERISTICS OF GREEN ALGAE FROM ZAURO
Abstract
Microalgae are photosynthetic microorganisms capable of converting sunlight and carbon dioxide into biomass. This study investigated the isolation and identification of microalgae from Zauro, Kebbi State. Algae cultures were collected from waterlogged areas using sterilized bottles and transported to the laboratory for isolation, purification and identification. Ten samples were analyzed using physical examination, gas production assessment, macroscopy and microscopy. A total of sixteen microscopic algae isolates were obtained and categorized into microphytes, mycrophytes and polyphyletic groups. Most isolates were identified only at the genus level. The study recommends further biochemical and molecular investigations to identify the isolates at species level.
