Abstract

ABSTRACT Medicinal plants have been used traditionally in the treatment of diseases since time immemonial. Chenopodium ambrosiolddes and petiveria alliaces are two medicinal plants that posses therapeulic properties such as antimicrobial anti- fungi, anti unsecticidal, anti oxidant, anti-malaria and so on. Essential oils were extracted from the two medicinal plants using hydrodistilation method with the aid of a clevenge apparatus. The essentials oil were subjected to GC-MS Analysis. Nineteen (iq) compounds use identified from the essential oil of chenopodium ambrosioide while petiveria alliaces essential oil gave nine (9) compounds. Antimicrobial activities of the two essential oils were evaluated using Rezasurun 96- well plate micro illutim method, The anti-bacterial activities were tested against four gram positive and four Gram Negative bacteria. The result of the research revealed that both chenopodium ambrosiodes and petiveria alliaces possess bioactive compounds that are responsible for their medicine properties. Also, these medicinal plants are good antibacterial agents.
