Abstract
The financial performance of deposit money banks in Nigeria is significantly influenced by board characteristics. Research suggests that board gender diversity, composition, and size play crucial roles in shaping bank performance. - *Board Gender Diversity*: Studies indicate that a majority of female board members can bring unique skills and perspectives, positively impacting financial performance. - *Board Composition*: Independence and structure of the board are vital, with corporate governance significantly influencing bank performance. - *Board Size*: Optimal board size is essential, as larger boards may inversely correlate with performance, according to agency theory. These factors underscore the importance of effective corporate governance in Nigerian deposit money banks, highlighting the need for balanced board composition and diversity to enhance financial outcomes.
