Abstract

ABSTRACT This study investigates the influence of online pornography on the sexual behavior among students of the University of Delta, Agbor, Delta State using a combination of surveys and interviews, this research examines the prevalence of pornography consumption, its influence on students' sexual expectations and practices, and the associated psychological and social effects. Results indicate that a significant proportion of students regularly engage with online pornography, with consumption patterns varying based on factors such as gender and personal motivations. Frequent exposure is linked to more permissive sexual attitudes, heightened expectations regarding sexual performance, and an increased propensity to mimic behaviors seen in pornographic content. Additionally, the study explores the potential negative consequences of pornography consumption, including addiction, decreased satisfaction in real-life sexual relationships, and the shaping of distorted views on consent and intimacy. The study concluded that the high accessibility and consumption of online pornography among students have contributed to more permissive sexual attitudes and a tendency towards experimental sexual behaviors. The study hereby recommended that institutions should implement comprehensive sexual 7 education programs that include discussions about pornography, its potential impacts, and how to critically assess the content. And further, suggested that studies should be conducted to assess the long-term effects of pornography consumption on sexual behavior, relationships, and psychological well-being.
