THE CHALLENGES OF URBANIZATION IN ADO EKITI, NIGERIA
Abstract
Urbanization in Ado Ekiti, Nigeria has been rapid and unplanned, posing significant challenges to the city's infrastructure, services, and inhabitants. The city's population has grown exponentially, exerting pressure on housing, transportation, healthcare, and education. Inadequate waste management and sanitation have led to environmental hazards, while the informal sector has mushroomed, contributing to urban poverty and inequality. Additionally, the city's historic and cultural heritage is being threatened by uncontrolled urban development. To address these challenges, there is a need for sustainable urban planning, infrastructure development, and social services provision to ensure a livable and resilient city for future generations.
