PROXIMATE ANALYSIS AND HEMATOLOGY OF SAROTHERODON GALILAEUS (GALILEE TILAPIA)
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study aimed to assess the proximate composition and hematological parameters of Sarotherodon galilaeus (Galilee tilapia.) to evaluate its nutritional value and health status. Proximate analysis was conducted to determine the protein, fat, moisture, ash, and energy content of Sarotherodon galilaeus (Galilee tilapia.). Hematological assessment included measurements of hematocrit, hemoglobin, white blood cell count, and white blood cell differential. The result shows that of Sarotherodon galilaeus (Galilee tilapia.) had higher fat (27 %), moisture (25.5 %), crude protein (16.10 %), carbohydrate (25.9%), ash (5 %) and crude fiber (0.50 %) contents in Sarotherodon galilaeus (Galilee tilapia.). Proximate analysis revealed a favorable nutritional composition of Galilee tilapia., highlighting its potential as a nutrient-rich food source. The haematocrit, haemoglobin, white blood cell and red blood cell of Sarotherodon galilaeus (Galilee tilapia.) sample were found to be 25%, 6.5 g/dl, 1.2 x 103/µl and 1.7 x 106/µl respectively. Hematological analysis indicated normal health status and physiological conditions for the examined fish, with values comparable to other healthy fish species. This study demonstrates that Sarotherodon galilaeus (Galilee tilapia.) has a promising nutritional profile, contributing to its potential as a valuable food source. These results suggest a normal health status and physiological condition of Sarotherodon galilaeus (Galilee tilapia.) examined in this study.
