ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN OF THE DEPARTMENT OF ARCHITECTURE IN AKWA IBOM STATE POLYTECHNIC, IKOT OSURUA IKOT EKPENE LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA.
Abstract
Abstract
This comprehensive research undertaking engaged in meticulous exploration to develop a standardized model for the envisioned Department of Architecture, with a primary emphasis on addressing the critical demand for contemporary educational infrastructure capable of effectively catering to the dynamic requirements of Architectural Education. The central aim was to formulate a sophisticated architectural blueprint that encapsulates not only functionality, sustainability, and aesthetic allure but also fosters an environment conducive to igniting creativity, encouraging collaboration, and facilitating innovation. Employing a methodical descriptive Survey Design approach, the study conducted an exhaustive evaluation and comparative analysis of three pivotal case studies: The Department of Architecture at Joseph Ayo Babalola University in Osun State, Nigeria; The Department of Architecture at the University of Lagos, Nigeria; and The Bauhaus School of Architecture. Data collection involved a diverse cohort of 40 students from each case study, systematically examining various components within the department, including lecture halls, modeling studios, computer facilities, libraries, administrative spaces, and faculty offices. The discerning insights gleaned from the study underscored several key areas requiring enhancement in existing architectural department frameworks, encompassing imperative aspects such as optimal acoustic solutions, advanced storage strategies, adaptable seating configurations, sustainable design integrations, pioneering spatial arrangements, understated yet impactful aesthetics, augmented functionality and form, seamless technology integration, enhanced visual coherence, and judicious material selection. The meticulously crafted proposed adaptations are tailored specifically for the envisaged Department of Architecture at Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, poised to redefine standards in architectural pedagogy and practice.
