Abstract

Traffic congestion is a major problem in urban areas, causing frustration, wasted time, and economic losses. Timer-based traffic light systems have been widely used to manage traffic flow and reduce congestion. This paper reviews the effectiveness and limitationsoftimer-basedtrafficlightsystems,highlightingtheirsimplicity, reliability, and low cost. However, the inflexibility of these systems to adapt tochangingtrafficconditionsisamajorlimitation.Thepaperconcludesthatwhile timer-based traffic light systems can be effective in reducing congestion, moreadvanced traffic management systems that use real-time data and intelligentalgorithms are needed to optimize traffic flow and minimize congestion. The designalso has scope for further expansion.
