PRODUCTION OF SOAP FROM OIL EXTRACTED FROM BAOBAB SEEDS
Abstract
This study focuses on the production of soap from oil extracted from baobab (Adansonia digitata) seeds. Baobab seeds contain significant quantities of oil that can be utilized in soap manufacturing. The oil was extracted from dried baobab seeds using solvent extraction methods and subsequently used for soap production through the saponification process. Physicochemical properties such as pH, lathering ability, hardness, and cleansing efficiency of the produced soap were evaluated. The results indicated that baobab seed oil possesses desirable characteristics for soap making, producing soap with good foaming ability, acceptable hardness, and skin-friendly pH. The study demonstrates the potential of baobab seed oil as an alternative raw material for commercial and household soap production while promoting the utilization of indigenous plant resources
