DEVELOPMENT OF TIE-DYE TECHNIQUES FOR THE PRODUCTION OF HEADREST COVERS FOR SOFAS IN INTERIOR DECORATION.
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study titled 'Development of Tie-Dye Techniques for the Production of Headrest Covers for Sofas in Interior Decoration' explores the adaptation of traditional tie-dye methods into modern furniture design, focusing on enhancing aesthetic appeal and cultural integration in interior spaces. The research was conducted in Nasarawa State and aimed to examine traditional tie-dye practices, assess their adaptability for sofa upholstery, and evaluate consumer perception and market potential. A descriptive survey design was adopted, utilizing questionnaires, interviews, and observations to collect data from artisans, furniture makers, and consumers. Findings revealed that most respondents were aware of tie-dye as a cultural art but had limited exposure to its use in furniture upholstery. The study demonstrated that tie-dye fabrics are durable, visually appealing, and culturally significant for interior decoration. The research concludes that incorporating tie-dye in sofa headrest covers can promote cultural heritage, support local artisans, and provide eco-friendly, unique interior design options. It recommends training programs for artisans, increased consumer awareness, and policy support to encourage the sustainable use of indigenous textile crafts in modern interior design.
