Abstract

The study focused on the Examine Impact of Jigsaw Learning Strategy enriched with Analogy on Retention and Performance among Secondary School Biology Students in Dala Local Government area of Kano state. Three research questions were posed to guide the study. The research design adopted for this study was Quasi-experimental research design. The sample size comprises of (120) Biology Students in senior secondary schools in Dala Local Government. The instruments namely Biology Achievement Test (BAT), titled Biology Achievement Test (Bat), On “The Impact Of Jigsaw Learning Strategy Enriched With Analogy On Retention And Performance Among Secondary Schools Biology Students In Dala Local Government” were used for data collection. The data obtained were analysed using frequency and simple percentage. The result revealed that Students in the experimental group taught using the Jigsaw learning strategy enriched with analogy demonstrated significantly higher posttest scores compared to students in the control group taught with traditional methods. This suggests that the enriched Jigsaw strategy is more effective in enhancing academic performance. The retention test scores of students in the experimental group were significantly higher than those of the control group. This indicates that the enriched Jigsaw strategy facilitates better long-term retention of Biology concepts. The use of analogies within the Jigsaw strategy helped students understand abstract and complex Biology concepts more effectively, leading to deeper learning and better performance. The study recommended that Teachers should adopt the Jigsaw learning strategy enriched with analogy in Biology instruction to enhance students’ performance and retention. Instructional materials should include analogies tailored to simplify complex Biology concepts and align with collaborative learning strategies like Jigsaw. Schools should provide adequate resources and support to facilitate the implementation of innovative instructional strategies such as the Jigsaw method.
