Abstract

This project focuses on ultraviolet (UV) printing on plastic materials. UV printing is a modern printing technology that uses ultraviolet light to cure ink instantly after printing. The study examined the UV printing process, types of plastic materials suitable for UV printing, print quality, durability, advantages, and limitations of UV printing on plastic surfaces. Data for the study were collected through questionaires, interviews and observation. A total of 40 questionnaires were distributed and all were returned for analysis. The results showed that UV printing produces high-quality and durable prints on plastic materials, with better resistance to scratching, fading, and moisture compared to traditional printing methods. The study also identified major challenges affecting UV printing adoption, including high cost of UV machines and inks, poor power supply, and ink adhesion problems on low surface energy plastics such as polyethylene and polypropylene. The study concluded that UV printing is one of the most effective printing methods for plastic materials and recommended that printing companies adopt the technology, while Kano State Polytechnic should strengthen practical training on UV printing to enhance students’ skills and improve printing standards in Kano State.
