Abstract

This study aimed to examine and analyze the physicochemical characteristics of water samples collected from Ogulagba Community, with a focus on understanding the consequences of oil and gas activities in that specific location. All results were compared against widely recognized WHO guidelines as well as findings from other relevant research studies. The results showed that the pH ranged between 6.3 to 7.1, conductivity levels were between 50 to 60, zinc concentrations were 0.001 to 0.0015, iron levels were 1.20 to 1.45, manganese was 0.025 to 0.039, and nickel was 0.08 to 0.11. All of these parameters were found to be below the WHO's recommended standards. In contrast, lead was found to be higher than the recommended standard within the water samples. The analysis revealed that the crude oil activities in the area have had a detrimental impact on both the physical and chemical properties of the water, particularly in close proximity to the exploration site. Based on these observations, the researchers have put forward recommendations for minimizing these negative effects through the implementation of appropriate measures and interventions.
