Abstract

This study investigated the effect of ginger farming on the socio-economic wellbeing of farmers in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Nigeria. Agriculture remains a major source of livelihood in rural communities, and ginger production has become one of the most profitable agricultural enterprises in the area. The study aimed to assess the contribution of ginger farming to income generation, employment opportunities, household welfare, and poverty reduction among farmers. A descriptive survey research design was adopted. Data were collected from selected ginger farmers through structured questionnaires and interviews. Findings revealed that ginger farming significantly improves farmers' income, enhances household welfare, creates employment opportunities, and contributes to rural economic development. However, farmers face challenges such as inadequate access to credit facilities, pest infestation, poor storage facilities, fluctuating market prices, and limited access to modern farming technologies. The study concludes that ginger farming plays a vital role in improving the socio-economic wellbeing of farmers in Kagarko LGA. It recommends increased government support, improved extension services, provision of affordable loans, and development of market infrastructure to enhance productivity and profitability.
