Abstract

Building collapse is a critical issue in Nigeria, posing threats to both human lives and the economy. This study investigates the economic impact of building collapses in Kano State, analyzing immediate effects such as propertyloss, business disruption, and emergency costs, alongside long-term impacts on investor confidence, insurance premiums, and employment levels. Utilizing a descriptive survey design, data was collected from key stakeholders, including builders, engineers.and government officials, to identify patterns in economic loss and risk factors contributing to these collapses. Findings highlight a significant correlation between adherence to building safety standards and economic stability, indicating that stricter enforcement and public awareness could mitigate economic risks. Recommendations include enhancing regulatory oversight, promoting quality construction materials, and establishing local emergency response agencies to prevent future occurrences.
