EFFECT OF THREE-MODE OF PICTURE PRESENTATION ON PHYSICS STUDENTS’ ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN IGALAMELA/ODOLU LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, KOGI STATE
Abstract
ABSTRACT
The study examined the effect of three-mode of picture presentation on physics students’ academic performance in senior secondary schools in Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Area, Kogi State. The study adopted three research questions, objectives and hypotheses for the study. Quasi experimental research design was adopted as the research design for the study. The population of the study comprised of 12, 892 students currently enrolled in Senior Secondary II (SS II) to study physics in Igalamela-Odolu Local Government Area of Kogi State. Among the secondary schools in Igalamela-Odolu Local Government Area of Kogi State, multi-stage sampling techniques was used possibly. Purposive sampling was used because the researcher’s discretion was needed in selecting the schools that are appropriate for the study. A total of two hundred and forty (240) male and female students. Physics Performance Test (PPT) was developed by the researcher based on the topics taught to the students in both groups. PPT consists of twenty (20) physics questions to be answered correctly. The data was analyzed using mean scores of students while hypotheses was tested using Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA). The findings shows that there is a significant difference between the mean performance scores of senior secondary school Physics students exposed to three-mode of picture presentation and conventional lecture method in Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Area, Kogi State and there is a significance difference between the performance mean scores of male and female senior secondary school Physics students exposed to three-mode of picture presentation in Physics in Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Area, Kogi State. The findings from the study indicate significant differences in the mean performance scores of senior secondary school Physics students based on the instructional method, gender, and school type. First, the substantial improvement in academic performance among students taught using the three-mode picture presentation compared to those receiving conventional lectures underscores the effectiveness of interactive and visual teaching strategies. The study recommends that schools should prioritize the implementation of interactive and visual teaching strategies, such as the three-mode picture presentation method, to enhance student engagement and understanding in Physics and educators should consider gender-specific learning preferences when designing curriculum and instructional strategies.
