ANTIBIOTIC SUSCEPTIBILITY IN UPPER RESPIRATORY TRACT INFECTIONS
Abstract
In recent time there are different types and brands of antibiotics used for the treatment of URTI with each having its different sensitivity to various organism. Some of these antibiotics have shown resistance as well as sensitivity to these organisms. In this study 4 different antibiotics were obtained from stores across the state (Kano) and each tested against different organism in other to determine their sensitivity. Each antibiotic was carefully preprared into different concentrations of 100mg/ml, 50mg/ml amd 25mg/ml and using the disk diffusion method (Kirby-Bauer method) there were carefully inserted into plates containing cultured organisms and incubated and the zones of inhibitions where measured to asses sensitivity. All antibiotics appeared to be sensitive to organisms but most appeared to be more sensitive at 100mg/ml and less sensitive at 25mg/ml.
