Abstract

ABSTRACT Due to their high cost, many farmers who grow maize are unable to purchase some of the imported threshing equipment. These individuals turn to hand threshing methods, which lead to low productivity, significant waste, and a lot of work. In order to increase the efficiency of post-harvest processing, this project describes the design and construction of a portable, inexpensive maize de-cobbing and separating machine.Conventional manual techniques cause grain breakage and are labor-intensive and time-consuming. To effectively separate grains from cobs, the suggested machine makes use of a blower system, a concave grate, and a revolving drum with beaters. Small-scale farmers will be able to afford the suggested machine since it will be constructed with locally accessible materials and driven by a 3 HP electric motor. When compared to a hand thresher, the suggested decobing and separating equipment performs quite well. According to the results, HS, which has a mean efficiency of 39.97%, operates around five times slower than the created maize sheller machine, which has a mean efficiency of 83.5%.
