Abstract

ABSTRACT The main purpose of the study is to assess the effects of projector based learning on academic performance of students in chemistry in Secondary schools in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State. The study adopted two research questions, objectives and hypotheses for the study. Quasi experimental research design was adopted as the research design for the study. The population of this study comprised of chemistry education students is 485 students. The study adopted intact class for the study. The intact class was used for the two secondary school students of Chemistry in Dekina LGA was selected. The assignment of the level to the experimental and control group was done through a simple random sampling. Chemistry performance test was used as the instrument of data collection. The data was analyzed using mean scores of students while hypotheses was tested using Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA). The findings shows that there is statistically significant difference in the mean performance score of students taught chemistry with Projector based learning method and those taught with the lecture method and there is statistically significant difference in the mean performance score of male and female students taught chemistry with Projector based learning method In conclusion, the findings underscore the importance of adopting innovative teaching strategies, such as the Projector based learning method, to enhance student performance in Chemistry. The study recommends that educators should consider implementing Projector based learning method more widely to improve student learning outcomes in chemistry and promote the adoption of effective teaching strategies so as to address disparities in educational outcomes of male and female students in chemistry.
