Abstract

This research aims to explore the aesthetics of the artistic image in the essays of "Shaykh al-Qasmain" (The Sheikh of the Two Fields), Dr. Sanusi Haroun Abdullah, considering it a key stylistic and aesthetic element in his prose writings. The study focuses on the literary essay, a genre known for its ability to combine thought and emotion, reason and imagination — and particularly distinguished in Dr. Sanusi’s writings by its vivid imagery and rhetorical beauty. Using the descriptive-analytical method, the study examines various rhetorical devices (such as simile, metaphor, and metonymy), analyzing them within their textual and intellectual contexts, while tracing the cultural and religious sources that inspire these images. The findings reveal that Dr. Sanusi skillfully employed artistic imagery as a central means of conveying intellectual and emotional stances, enriching his texts both aesthetically and semantically. His use of imagery goes beyond decoration, functioning as an essential component of meaning construction and persuasion. This research contributes to the field of aesthetic criticism in contemporary Arabic prose and lays the groundwork for further studies on the literary contributions of Dr. Sanusi Haroun Abdullah.
