INFLUENCE OF TIME AND RATE OF NITROGEN ON VEGETABLE AMARANTH (AMARANTHUS CRUENTUS) IN DUTSIN MA
Abstract
A field experiment was conducted at the Teaching and Research Farm of Federal University
Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State, to investigate the influence of nitrogen fertilizer time and rate of
application on the growth and yield of vegetable amaranth (Amarantus cruentus.). The
experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with a factorial
arrangement consisting of three application times (at sowing, one week after sowing, and two
weeks after sowing and four nitrogen rates (0, 40, 80, and 120 kg N ha⁻¹) and replicated three
times. Results revealed that time of application of nitrogen was not significant (P>0.05) on all
the parameters measured except plant height at 4WAS, where applying nitrogen fertilizer at one
week after produced significantly taller plants than applying nitrogen fertilizer at two weeks after
sowing. Nitrogen fertilizer had a significant effect (P
