Abstract

Nigeria secondary school increase in the society. In earlier days, when not all young men and women were expected to finish secondary education, a dropped-out student could usually secure employment as an unskilled worker in the job market or even become an auxiliary teacher. However, today, this is almost impossible, leading to potential unemployment or delinquency among dropouts. As Nigeria moves into the post- industrial era, these challenges are likely to persist. Despite the fact that secondary school education is available in public school to all, yet minority youngsters refuse to graduate from high school. In the face of those problems, the need to understand the phenomenon becomes more urgent every day. What is known about drop? What are the factors influencing their decisions to leave school and how can this be prevented? Hence, it is worthwhile to find answer to these questions in order to focus more attention on them in guiding and making the education process more relevant to the needs of youths.
