IMPACT OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE ON STUDENTS ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE AMONG EDUCATION BIOLOGY STUDENTS OF NWU
Abstract
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become one of the most transformative technologies in modern education, providing innovative tools that enhance teaching and learning processes. AI-powered applications such as intelligent tutoring systems, virtual learning assistants, automated assessment tools, and personalized learning platforms have significantly influenced students' academic experiences. This study investigates the impact of Artificial Intelligence on the academic performance of Education Biology students at Northwest University (NWU). A descriptive survey research design was adopted, involving selected Education Biology students. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistical methods, including frequencies, percentages, mean scores, and standard deviation. The findings revealed that AI technologies improve students' access to educational resources, facilitate personalized learning, enhance research skills, and increase academic engagement. However, challenges such as inadequate digital infrastructure, limited technical skills, and concerns over academic integrity were also identified. The study concludes that effective integration of AI into Biology education can significantly improve students' academic performance when supported by appropriate policies and training. Recommendations are provided for educational institutions, lecturers, students, and policymakers.
