ASSESSMENT OF THE IMPACT OF TEACHING AIDS FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING BRICKS/BLOCKLYING AND CONCRETING IN TECHNICAL COLLEGE IN KANO STATE
Abstract
This study investigates the impact of teaching aids on the teaching and learning of brick/blocklaying and concreting in technical colleges in Kano State, Nigeria. Technical education is vital for equipping students with practical skills that drive industrial growth and economic development, particularly in construction sectors. Despite the significance of teaching aids in enhancing students' understanding and skill acquisition, many technical institutions face challenges such as insufficient teaching resources, outdated materials, and lack of trained personnel. This research adopts a descriptive survey design to assess the availability, impact, and challenges associated with using teaching aids in technical education. Data were collected from students and instructors across various technical colleges in Kano State, utilizing questionnaires to capture insights on the types of teaching aids employed, their effectiveness, and associated barriers. Results indicate that while teaching aids such as visual aids, multimedia resources, and field visits contribute positively to student engagement and knowledge retention, challenges like resource limitations and technological barriers persist. The study recommends increasing funding, improving technology infrastructure, and offering professional development programs for educators to enhance the use of teaching aids. This research contributes to the growing body of knowledge on technical education and highlights the importance of optimizing instructional resources to better prepare students for careers in the construction industry.
