Abstract

Th e objectives of the study among others were to find out the extent of coverage given to The HIV/AIDS issue in the Nigerian print media and to synthesize based on the foregoing the overall disposition of the Nigerian press towards the HIV/AID S issue. The procedure entailed an analysis of the manifest content of three national newspaper and two national magazine s - The Guardian, Vanguard and Punch newspapers an d Tell and Newswatch magazines. The papers and magazines ,,1(1 wer e purposely selected based on their nationwide spread. >-\ Th e data revealed great uniformity in the pattern of coverage given to the HIV/AIDS issue by the newspapers and magazines studied. This uniformity no doubt centered around inadequate coverage of the HIV/AIDs issue. A summation of this data revealed that the Nigerian journalistic practice does not in anywa y fall within the ambits of development journalism.
